REMEDIES FOR
KITCHEN AND LAUNDRY APPLIANCES
KITCHEN
and laundry room appliances can pick your pocket of energy dollars. But
you can put a stop to the thievery with simple appliance maintenance
procedures and a few simple adjustments and appliance repairs. Two
easily remedied shortcomings in your refrigerator can make it, work
harder than necessary to keep your food cold a waste of electricity and
money. One is dirty condenser coils. The solution is to clean the coils
twice a year (below). The second source of wasted energy in your
refrigerator is a door seal that is no longer airtight. You can solve
the problem in one of the two ways shown on the next page: by
realigning the door or by installing a. new seal. A refrigerator's
condenser coils and cooling fins are located either under the unit
behind a grille on the front or on the back of the appliance. Pull
outward on the grill, unclipping it to expose the coils, or move the
refrigerator away from the wall.
